Basic Business Writing

Many people find business writing a challenge. That isn't surprising when we consider that business writing requires us to make decisions about a surprising number of things, even in a short e-mail or letter. Think about it. You have to make sure you have included all the information that is needed. Each word should be spelled correctly. You want to be sure you have used the proper punctuation, the appropriate writing style and the right words. Finally, you want to make sure your message is clear and will be understood by the person or persons reading it.

What You Will Cover

This one-day workshop can put your mind at ease. We'll cover all this and more. Register today and make sure the written impression you are making is one of a skilled professional who knows how to get your message across easily and effectively.
How to recognize writing that rambles
When it comes to writing, many of us have a tendency to ramble. When writing a letter, memo, etc. it is important that you are able to cut back on the rambling and get your message across clearly and concisely. The Business Writing Course will help you learn to cut back on your rambling in order to get your message across quickly and clearly.
How to proofread to be sure work is clear, complete, and correct
Proofreading is an extremely important part of business writing. When things are not spelled correctly people notice and make assumptions about you and your company. The Business Writing course will give you techniques for good proofreading in order to make sure your writing is clear, complete and correct.
Basic grammar and punctuation
Although we learned basic grammar and punctuation in grade school, many of us forget much of what we were taught. The Business Writing course will refresh your memory on sentence structure and where and when to use commas, apostrophes, etc.
Spelling checkups
The English language is one of the trickiest languages out there. There are many exceptions to rules, spelling wise, and many words that sound the same but are spelt differently. The Business Writing workshop will give you tips on remembering how to spell those tricky words, when to put an 'i' before an 'e', etc.
Appropriate writing styles
There are many different writing styles ranging from university research papers to writing a thank you letter to a client. The Business Writing course will help you to decide which writing style you should use when writing a memo, letter, etc.
Bad news letter
Letters with the intent to give someone bad news are hard to write. You need to be able to know your audience and how to tell them the bad news in a way they will understand. The Business Writing course will help you to learn strategies for sending bad news letters without hurting someone's feelings or causing problems.
Email etiquette
As the technical world grows emailing is becoming more and more popular, but there is a time and a place. There are some situations where a written letter, a phone call or a face-to-face conversation are better ways of communicating than an email. The Business Writing course will give information on when and where to use an email and what to say, or not say in an email.
